STRESS who needs it!

When you decided to move to Philippines was stressful living part of your reason to make the move?

Having been retired now four years I have seen how stressful living and working in UK- Europe has become.

Only today my lovely wife was almost in tears at thought of going to work and a job that she once use to love.

So question is... did moving to Philippines make your life less stressful or just another form of stress?

Yes I understand, there are frustrating times wherever you live, but did retiring and moving abroad resolve the stressfulness in your life?

I am certainly hoping so. A year or less to retirement and moving. My company just implemented massive layoffs, firings, and early retirement packages. Despite my advanced age I was not asked or told to leave. Lucky me lol. My wonderful wife said don't worry; if you get fired we are OK and will just retire a little bit sooner.

The level of stress in the work environment is insane - or perhaps I just don't deal with it as well as I did when I was younger. Back then it seemed like I needed stress to get me moving. So yes, my hope is that a retired life in the Philippines, in addition to some of the other benefits, will include less stress and the adoption of a more laid back attitude.

We retired here in Los Banos in 2011 6 months before my official retirement age, it was because of the stress  the little woman was getting from working

in the NHS and having to walk to work in 5 inches of snow !

Living in the Philippines is on a day to day basis stress free with the exception of family deaths which are inevitable.

overall if we compare living in the UK and the Philippines its the Philippines that wins 100%

I am not in Phils yet, but still in Thailand for another year.  Then we will be moving camp.

I have suffered 'hypertension' most of my life but just carried on with my  work and life.  I still have it now but

nowhere near as problematic as before.  I have no doubt that will continue to be the case or improve when I get to Phils.

Once settled in, I found that I had zero stress. There are the occasional frustraters that pop up but nothing crazy. It also helps to divest yourself of any negative and drama queen friends. Its all about what makes you happy. If you don't know that, you never will be.

early retirement packages

Why don't you ask for one?  I guess one reason you were not offered on is because you are so close anyway, but it never hurts to ask.

Or you can do what I did.  I made myself a pain in the ass until the offered me a package!

Unfortunately the selections were all done via computer and you cannot ask for a package. But your latter idea is my current plan. If I don't get anything, come next March I am done. Does it sound like I have a bad attitude toward work :)
