Balisidar Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Hi, Has anyone tried growing macadamia trees at their house? I figure Since their originally from Australia that they might grow well. I think That there is a small commercial growing done in the PI but was curious if anyone had one or two in their garden and where you might acquire some saplings. JJReyes Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) There are several commercial macadamia farms in Mindanao. The nuts are mostly for export. I met last year a growers association exhibiting at a food fair in Ecuador. One of the largest growing areas is Fiji. Something like 70% of the macadamia sold in Hawaii to locals and tourists come from there. Anyway, macadamia can grow in most tropical and sub-tropical areas. There is a nursery in Laguna selling saplings for the more unusual fruits, They may have Macadamia. Sorry I forgot the name. The problem you will encounter planting a few trees is the nuts are very hard to crack. You need to purchase specialize equipment. mogo51 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I am told that Australia supplied Hawaii initially with their macadamia trees to start off their industry. It is quite a decent sized industry in Australia. Specialised equipment in Australia is a hammer.
