sonjack2847 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I have seen a big increase of Flies and Mosquito`s the last few days to a point of infestation and I don`t remember it being like this before. Maybe it is due to the fact that they have been cleaning the drains in the roads out coupled with it being rainy season. I bought an electric insect killer 2 weeks ago and it is working overtime,I also bought a handheld rechargeable 1 and am using that a lot.I think this morning alone I have killed 30 Mosquito`s and about a dozen Flies which is way above normal.I think I made a decision just in time to buy these things.

This is a bugs natural environment. I am constantly reminding my wife "Honey, we live in a Jungle!" (just lots of buildings) We have a bug zapper for almost every room. when the bugs show up we plug them in. Part of the charm of living in the tropics
RBM Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Kev perhaps there are many trees and shrubs in the immediate vicinity which they love. We travel a lot and always find the more lovely green shrubbery the more the more the mosses... The first section we almost bought was in lovely green area. I loved it, trees and bushes every where. How ever each and every time we visited people were burning the old leafs and various droppings. Inquires revealed it has been on going for years so little chance of us changing it. (I detest being smoked out) Eventually we built on in a barren almost treeless area which I hated. The one plus is zero, as in zero mosses or bugs. Screens not required....Still miss the greenery, we have planted how ever doubt be around to reap the benefits.....

From my understanding they do it to rid the insects that Kevin was talking about?

Yes mostly understand this also to be the case. We suffer from lack of vegetation, except out trees are taking hold but no bugs so to speak. No doubt as ours plants grow so the bugs will come.
Dave Hounddriver Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I have noticed there are getting to be a lot of pests in Dumaguete but if I ignore them they go away, or at least they don't bother me. Beer helps, just don't let the flies have any. They like it too much and invite their friends, seriously, if you are not careful they will be swimming in your beer glass.

Normally it`s not a problem but the last few days have been chitty with so many about. They seem to be getting less in numbers now so maybe it was just the drain cleaning.
