bows00 Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Duterte says Abu Sayyaf has their reasons, so that makes kidnapping/killing of expats in the PH 'not a crime'. Well, at least we know where he stands. May have to reconsider moving to the Philippines now.

OK, lets try again.... So, how about just staying north of Mindanao? Greater Cebu has huge potential! Many areas offering city to village to rural life to offer. Define just what it is that makes you want to more to the Philippines and then research which areas offer most what you want. Farming areas, fishing areas, tourist areas, night life, outdoor / beach life... Did I mention w o m e n... Many with poor eyesight who think you are a right handsome fella! Yes, the Philippines has a lot to offer well beyond the victim potential.

I think these are your words, not his, right? He was speaking of motivations. http://www.rappler.com/nation/139125-duterte-abu-sayyaf-not-criminals I like what Duterte is doing overall and I think Philippines will be a safer place in the long run, for locals and expats. Some of the methods might be questionable but the Philippines needs a paradigm shift if it is going to progress out of third world status. Duterte has a habit of speaking off the cuff. He has been quoted before as saying he will hunt them down and kill them like the low life's they are. Besides the press has a way of taking things out of context to portray a position they hold. A certain American politician recently said "Sadam was a bad guy, but boy he sure knew how to take care of terrorists!" The next days head line was! "XXXX praises Sadam Hussien" Which is really not what he meant. Don't make any decisions by what you read in the press.

The problem when people make a statement that someone said something with no proof is that it's their interpretation and nothing to say they read or heard it correctly.

In his words, Abu Sayyaf is NOT a criminal. Black and white. Yet, anyone dealing drugs, yet even connected to it are convicted criminals without a trial and are killed for ransom. But I hope you are right. I am hoping for a safer Philippines too. And I would be the first to admit to be the happiest if I am over reacting to this. There are many other places that will offer the same deal and where my American dollars will do me good. But safety is always first. BTW, I am hoping I am so wrong on this. As of now, I love so many things about the Philippines...
