Top 10 Fun Things to do in Philippines

I don't have an answer to this.  What ARE the top 10 fun things to do in Philippines?  I originally came for the girls, the climate, the cost of living and the beaches.  Now that I have been here a long time I have moments when I wonder what I am missing out on here.

Since we have a lot of members from different areas of the Philippines, and since some of our members travel around the islands a lot, what are some of the most fun things you have done here?  Lets compile our own list,

Number 1 on my list only applies when single.  The number 1 thing for a foreign man to do in Philippines is to be inundated by beautiful girls of all ages who treat most foreign men like rock stars.

Since that is an obvious one I will suggest that number 2 on my list of fun things to do in Philippines is to get together with friends and hire a boat to an island of sandy beaches for a day trip with beers, food, swimming and socializing.

Another fun thing on my list is to go to one of the many low cost hot springs and soak away the day's stress.  Seems like there is always a hot spring within a couple of hours drive (usually less) or anywhere I have been.

I could add shopping trips to the major cities as something fun to do but I am more interested in fun things that are moderately unique to Philippines.

Massage would be on my list of fun things to do.  I thoroughly enjoy having my stress massaged away for a price that even a low budget pensioner can handle.  My problem with massage is that I enjoy it so much I tend to over-tip.  Don't do that or they expect the same each time they see you.

Walking on the province beaches is fun.  There are many areas where you can go for long walks on the beach without coming to an obstruction.  Many developed countries do not have that luxury due to hotels and such building right out onto the beach.

Who's next?  What can you add to Fun things to do in Philippines that you could not do where you came from?

Enjoying the Philippines on my many trips/vacations there, I would have to add the festivals and festival parades. Along with the music, costumes, food, great people in good moods, entertainment, and all the fan fare that goes with it-a Filipino festival/parade is not far away in distance and time-each a little different than another.

Once I get settled there, I plan to travel to many for the unique experience. Filipinos love festivals!

Manila's Chinatown is called Binondo and is known as the world's oldest Chinatown established in 1594. My SO and I  spent 3 nights and 4 days there and had a great time.  A 20 minute walk or a 8 min ride takes you to Intramuros and Fort Santiago.  This is one of the best trips I have had in the Philippines and it is only 1 1/2 hours from my home in San Pablo City.

Top ten? hmmm.. for me, maybe not No.1, but nontheless...

Making friends with a Filipina and getting invited to a filipino party with her friends and drinking Red Horse with one plastic cup that is passed around the party...and getting so smashed you conjure the courage to eat balut.  So much fun until it comes time to pay the consequences the next morning - Red Horse hangovers are pretty bad...

What's the balut taste like....I am going to have to try it even if its only once. I think I'll start with some Tanduay to build up the courage first LOL.

Among the festivals, top of my list is Pahiyas in Lukban. Each year, certain streets are selected to participate. The homeowners decorate the exteriors of their houses with harvest items like bananas and coconuts, and colorful buntings. On the feast day, there is a procession. As the priest passes the homes, he blesses the harvest and the homeowners then distribute the produce to the crowd following behind.

Must see places include the Banaue Rice Terraces. Unfortunately, the Ifugaos became more affluent after the filming of Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola. He had paid them huge sums of money to work as extras and many built homes with corrugated metal roofs rather than nipa or cogon grass. Spoiled the view.

My children loved going to Banaue because they could eat excellent sandwiches. My wife would pack olives, cheese, salami, etc. in our cooler. The wonderful bread was baked be Belgian nuns at their mission house using flour from Europe.

Get rid of the water inside the shell by draining it. Taste is good enough but needs some enhancement. The vinegar is standard, or the sucat, vinegar with chillies.

The best part about the balut is the nutritional value, 100% high protein, low fat, low carb. The caveat is I would not want to eat it everyday.

The Massage.

It varies from place to place. It can be average if the girl doesn't have good experience. In a decent place for 400-600 pesos an hour, you could have a sauna/shower/steam before and after more or less unlimited time.

I probably have one about twice a year. But always a highlight.
