Queenie O. Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Just recently when some members were asked about one thing that they wished they had, one thought was that they missed the great mattress from their former place. When we moved here, we had a bamboo bed made by a local carpenter that came out nice. I had gone regularly to a chiropractor in the US for maintenance adjustments, and hoped to find a decent mattress to go with the bed. We purchased quite a bit of our furniture from Mandaue Foam, and although some was stylish and good quality and other items not so, the mattress that we found there was just fantastic, IMHO. I'm not getting anything for saying so, but this Gala Chiropractic mattress has been fantastic and better than any mattress I've ever had. Not only do we sleep great on it, but I think it has so helped us to be back pain free. Thought it might be of interest to some. https://mandauefoam.ph/product/gala-bed-chiropractic/ How about you guys--what kind of bed/mattress do you use or choose living here? We planned ahead on this one Queenie, we bought a brand new searly poster pedic types (its what the Asawa wanted ) and shipped it over in our container. The reason? We did find the exact same bed here at a couple higher class malls, imported, but if I remember correctly the price was 50% higher.
Gratefuled Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Thanks Queenie, I also have a back problem and the mattress that I bought was suppose to be just temporary. I guess I will have to look into the mattress that you suggested. I saved the page. Thanks again.

I agree with your choice of Mandaue Foam. An expat friend likes to tell the story of how he went to the production area of Mandaue foam in Cebu to see how they were made. He claims to have seen them putting Sealy Posturepedic labels on some of the mattresses. He says he asked if he could buy one of those and was told they are for export only. I have no links to back that up but he tells the same story any time I ask. Perhaps they are a supplier of Sealy? I can tell you I have slept on a Mandaue Foam Mattress for about 8 years and its still good. Probably time for replacement but they are not cheap. About US$300 for a decent Mandaue Foam queen size mattress?

About US$300 for a decent Mandaue Foam queen size mattress? I wouldn't be surprised about the possible export of their mattresses. It's true Dave, they're not cheap, but I noticed that recently in looking in two Gaisano Metro stores for a cheaper double sized mattress for our guest room, there were some just average looking mattresses that were pretty expensive for what you were getting. In the US and probably Canada too, there is often competition between stores and brands making for sales, where a good deal might be had. Not so here it seems Mandaue Foam does have annual and other sales through the year sometimes, or if you purchase a certain amount of items at a given time, you get a discount too, which is good. If you time it right, you might catch a sale. I think that their annual sale is in September, but they do post their coming sales on their site. This particular mattress is really high quality and custom made.
OnMyWay Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 We bought a premium Uratex mattress that seems similar to Queenie's, but it has a hard foam base with memory foam top. We like it a lot and for my back, it has been much better that the very expensive box spring and mattress I had when I was last living in the U.S.
Tukaram (Tim) Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) We bought a foam mattress at SM when I first got here. Still firm, almost 4 years so far... I don't know the brand. It is 6 or 8 inches thick and cost about p4,000. Only problem we had with it so far was that it came wrapped in plastic... and my my wife said we had to keep the plastic on it to protect it from bugs & weather. After less than 1 hour of crinkling - I got up and ripped the plastic of ha ha. I later bought a cloth, fully wrapped, zip on mattress cover. (which is why I cannot see the brand) ~Edit~ Oh, and I cannot get her to understand that the sheets want to have a 45 degree angle on them... you want the bed to be happy, right? Which is why I make the bed, and she makes my Milo. Edited July 23, 2016 by Tukaram (Tim)

Once the bed is made with 45 degree hospital corners, do you then bounce a quarter on it to make sure it is tight? haha
davewe Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Competition in the mattress world (the name of a local chain BTW) is rabid. Let's face it, as Americans get bigger and bigger their requirements for a comfortable and durable mattress go up and up. For a 120 pound Filipino - maybe it's not as important -

So far she is right and I have never heard a complaint when we had a lot of people stay over.
