Forum Support Popular Post scott h Posted October 12, 2016 Forum Support Popular Post Posted October 12, 2016 Here is the bottom line IMHO, and this is just ME. The Philippines is not a place for the faint of heart, the easily offended, those with little patience, the thin skinned, those who live by the golden rule and get ticked off if it is broken. There are times when this country is just plain brutal. If I can not accept it, adapt and adjust to it,,,,I don't belong here.

Agreed but just like any other legal issue here, it would end up going nowhere I think..
sonjack2847 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 A big problem here they don`t review all of the evidence before they make a charge. My friend has been going to court appearances for 3 years. His witnesses have started to give evidence which prove beyond a doubt that he is innocent. If they had a system like the UK (Crown prosecution service) he would not have even faced charges as it would have progressed no further than that reviewing office.I feel very sorry for the Aussie but we all hear and read of cases where it has been years rather than months. But I am stunned by the number of Americans who now "know" all about the Philippines, it's "loose cannon" of a President, etc. I wrote about it (shameless promotion) in my blog. Suddenly they are all experts and because I am the only person they know who has ever been to the Philippines, I am the one they come and complain to or say "are you really going to live there with that crazy President?" "Yes," I respond. "I will be moving into the Presidential Palace shortly." It's more about the power of the Western media than about Rodrigo Duterte. By the way, here's a news flash: Police in the Philippines have been killing drug dealers and drug dealers have been killing cops long before Duterte became President. All this being said if an American or an Aussie doesn't want to come to the Philippines or chooses to leave - that's their business. But any nonsense about how we're all gonna be gunned down because Duterte hates Americans is silly. Duterte has a genuine issue with American and European politics - which I get. I like Obama but I know lots of Americans who are far more anti-Obama than Duterte. I think I may have posted this before but it seems appropriate here. A Filipino OFW friend posted it on FB about a month ago. =========================================================== American talks to his Filipino friend: Hey Felicia. I'm sorry to hear about what's going on in your country right now. Hope your family is okay. Pinay: Why what's wrong? Kano: Haven't you read the news? There's been a lot of killings going on. The elected President is running the country with his reign of terror. They say he is a mass murderer and he is committing genocide. Pinay: Oh, you mean the killings? Those are legitimate police operations. Those were criminals and drug peddlers killed because they resisted arrest. Wow! Genocide? That's like killing 6 million in a holocaust. That's just too much. Don't believe that. My family has never been better. In fact, this is the happiest they've been since the new President took office. Kano: Really? Why so? Pinay: Yeah. Because change has come. Just barely two months and he's done so much. Did you know that we already have 911 emergency response? 600,000 drug addicts and peddlers voluntarily surrendered for rehabilitation. More than 10 mining firms closed down because of illegal operations. They're making the country self-sufficient in producing rice. Stranded OFWs were rescued in Saudi Arabia. The railway transit is being repaired and is much more efficient now. The President goes after the drug lords and corrupt politicians. The government is engaging with peace talks with the rebels. They're hunting down the terrorist group down south. Crime has gone down 49%. It's so much safer to walk the streets now. Kano: Wow! For real? I haven't read those in the news. Pinay: Yes. Because media outlets here only report the negative ones. Most media corporations in the Philippines are owned by oligarchs. That's why they try to bring down the President because they are scared of him. Kano: Thanks for telling me this. No wonder Filipinos always have good things to say about your new President. Pinay: That's right. For the first time in my life, I've seen a President that we can really trust. He has the approval of 91% of the Filipinos. Oh, and by the way. Don't believe that it's chaotic in the Philippines. We will be hosting the next Miss Universe and you can go and visit. Kano: That would be lovely! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The point is. No matter how they destroy Duterte in the international community, there will always be a Filipino who will defend him and tell the truth. ============================================================
robert k Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 OMW, agreed. My cousin Lori asked me where I had been and I told her Philippines. She said, "Isn't that place a $#!&hole?" I told her that might be an accurate description for some places in it but not all by a wide margin. She looked thoughtful for a moment and said, "You know, some places here (USA) are $#!%holes". Lori is a very bright woman and never having had to give the matter any thought she accepted the media opinion as default as I suppose many people do.

I would kike to see that happen in every case. As it stands now, even the most simple court case involving almost nothing can take two or three years before it goes before a judge.
