Jollygoodfellow Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Sad to hear. Im wondering if the correct diagnosis was given for the dogs illness. Seems far to quick and should not be a death sentence. Could the dog have been bitten by something?

Dave Hounddriver Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 1 hour ago, Jollygoodfellow said: Im wondering if the correct diagnosis was given for the dogs illness. I thought the same but who am I to second guess the vet. BUT, having said that, I know that once a dog with Parvo has been in a yard the virus stays there forever and all new puppies brought into that yard without immunity or vaccination are at serious risk for eventually developing the deadly disease and the symptoms are very close to what Jack described earlier. But don't take my word on it. I know it through personal experience as it works with cats the same way but read what the experts say here: Quote Impossible to Completely Remove. The most scary fact about parvo virus is that despite your cleaning efforts, the complete destruction of parvo from an outdoor environment is close to impossible. Yes, you can dilute the viral particles by hosing down the lawn if you have drainage, or you can use a spray hose delivering disinfectants, but most likely you'll just be reducing the amount of particles around, hopefully to an extent of reducing their numbers to an acceptable level, but no guarantees can be made. Point is that future puppies raised in that yard could easily have the same fate and I don't have a good solution to put forward. 1

He was negative on Parvo & Distemper and his Uncle had Distemper so I think neither were the cause. A mystery all round I feel
BobP Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) Jack, So, so very sorry to hear. He has crossed the bridge and is now in a better place running with his buddies. It will take time, but a better day is coming. BobP Edited February 21, 2018 by BobP

WHIPPING BOY Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Sorry for your loss. It is advisable to let your vet perform an autopsy in such cases. They usually will need to send samples to a laboratory to get the full cause. Especially in these rather strange cases claiming young animals. Perhaps consider it even if you've already buried your dog. Some strange diseases in a strange climate/country.
