Mr Lee Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 until now, we stay in cebu/ mandauebut in april we want to move on to davao Wally, I think you have been there before and probably know what you are doing, but make sure you go there for a month or so and see if you really like it........ We have been there in years past and it had nothing to offer IMO compared to Cebu and if we were to live in Mindanao anywhere, then I would pick the Cagayan de Oro area for sure, because it so clean, not as much pollution, has great shopping, not as good as Cebu but getting there, the streets are mostly clean and organized and the drivers seem to be much better and seem to drive a lot safer, and even more important, everyone seems to be so friendly...... There also seems to be a much more organized expat community there and that always makes life easier when you need to get an answer to how, what or where.So if you are thinking about Davao because maybe your lady has family there, look at CDO anyway because I have found that living too close to family can also be good and bad and CDO is just a very long bus ride from Davao.Anyway, glad you will be in Cebu until April because we will be there in February to May and we would like to meet you in person and say hi :D and if you do move to Davao, then maybe you will be able to tell me more about how it is now and I might just have to revisit my ideas about it and pay it another visit since we have one of our nieces living there who is married and just happens to have the same values in life as my fantastic wife. :AddEmoticons04230: 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jake Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 After retiring from the US Navy, my family moved back to PI in the early 90's. We initially resided in Cavite City (2 hours south of Manila, along the coast) and then moved to Noveleta and Resario, also in the province of Cavite. Didn't like it at all because of traffic congestion, extended family ISSUES and severe problems with the local drug called shabu. Finally settled in the outskirts of Batangas City where my wife is from. The province of Batangashas many beaches and diving spots and the city of Tagaytay with it's own casino, gives you a breathtaking view of Taal Lake. Later we took an extended vacation in Puerto Galera, Mindoro just south across the Batangas Channel. When I return, I will seriously consider Sta Rosa, Laguna (where Art and Ed lives) or Damarinas, just north of Tagaytay. Regardless of location, I need to find a way to ward off uninvited "visitors". In fact one of the photos looks like it might have been me walking by one of the shops. If we had not invested so much into Cebu and our condos there, I might consider moving closer to you and hanging out with you once in a while. piglett Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 well if you want remote then head on down to Sibuyan which is in the province of Romblon.(about 1/2 way between Manila & Cebu) there is no ATM on the island, no bank & no malls. however i did see a bunch of changes from last time i was there a year agonew gas station & also a pawn shop.also some new cement roads.the whole island is a very layed back place. not much need for air/conso your electric bill would be cheep. the choice of foods there is not so goodit's just sooooo far off the beaten path. i would have to ship in some of the things i like before i arrived my wife & i found some small apartments there for the huge sum of p3000 a month However like Jake said it's just asking for problems if my wife & I move there because she is related to 1/2 the island & the requests for money would never stop. so at some point we will have to tour the PI & maybe we can find the rite place for us.after all what works for you may not be what we are looking for. I think we may be looking for a place with some other expatsmy wife is starting to see that the locals now treat her different than beforeshe now has many new "friends" that would never have given her the time of day beforehowever she can quickly see that the are just after moneyso my guess is she will end up befriending other ladies that have married foreigners however i'm only 40 so i think my retirement days are a long ways offmaybe in 10 years we will start to winter in the PI for 3 or 4 months to avoid the cold & the snow.if we decide on this i guess i could stop by & visit some of the members & share an ice cold Red Horse.so please don't run shy on beer guys you never know when i mite decide to pop in :cheersty: take care allpiglett Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sta Rosa in Laguna is still expanding and there's still a lot homes available in every price range from P3 million and up, but of course lower the price, less attractive the area or home may be. It's really all about location and the prime locations are getting expensive every year! We were just fortunate and lucky to buy at a good time and at a good location when prices were reasonable! Our little home sits on a 187 sq meter corner lot adjacent to to the guard house and it suites our needs just fine, since it's just my wife and I living in our home without the extended family. Prices are sky rocketing now due to the high cost of building materials, but it's still affordable as long it's the type of area one would like to live in! Our area is your typical modern upscale suburbs with a lot of gated subdivision communities! As I always say, "different strokes, for different folks"! Where we live is just across the street from Paseo de Sta Rosa, walking distance from our home, which we can probably get by without a vehicle, but it's more convenient with one, because some of these subdivisions are really huge, but some subdivisions have their own shuttle service to get around within the area of many shops, eateries, and markets. twostrokes Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 I am sure the areas are nothing like I remember them but I used to travel and spend a lot of time alll through the Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas areas back in the 60's when not much was there but farm land and forest. I lived in Cavite City. We went to Tagaytay often. There were only a couple hotels there. I was up there when Taal Valcano blue up in 65 and then a few others through 68. In the area when the earth quake hit Manila and dropped Ruby towers. In Batangas, we used to go fishing out of Nagsugbu (sp) and go out to Fortune island for some great fishing. Have also been all through Laguna but again not much there but beautiful country. Hard to believe it is all subdivisions now. Back then it was hard to find electricty in most areas. For me those were the good old days. It was like stepping back into the 18th century...everyone still remembered WWII and us Kanos were still the heros. If it was still the way it was in the 60's, I would be there in a heartbeat. But, all things change.
