Philippines seems to be rife with these stories. I have heard of one family that is supposedly rich. All they seem to do, as far as I can tell, is run a small "short time" hotel establishment. But the rumor is that they found a hidden cache of Japanese gold when they dug in the ground to build the place! :6:

I have heard a few stories about Japanese gold in the Cordillera Mountains. In these stories the gold was mined during the Japanese occupation but when MacArthur returned the Japanese were unable to get all the gold out. Stories of Japanese prospectors using special equipment in a helicopter to search the mountains for the caches of gold.

FYI, there still are active gold mines in the Cordillera Mountains.
