TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan, Philippines — An Australian man was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Sinait, Ilocos Sur on Monday.

Reginald Hodgens, a building supervisor and surfing afficionado, was resting in front of his rented house in Barangay Katipunan when he was shot at around 7:45 a.m.

The victim, who had been staying in Ilocos Sur for the last three months, recently filed a complaint against a barangay official after they figured in a fistfight last month.

That is soooo true.

Couple of years a go I saw these Aussies at Ayala mall who had a little too much to drink. They were on their way out of the mall, and "they" bumped into a couple of local guys....and then they started carrying on like it was the local guys fault, it started to get heated....which attracted one of the security guards, on his approach they all just went their own ways....but it had me thinking....seriously guys...do you know where you are?? This is not Northbridge, Western Australia or someplace like that.

Something which to me was alien until a few years ago is that when dealing with locals use a bucketload of diplomacy and then some. You must always let the locals think they have won so they can save face.If this costs a few thousand peso better that than a bullet to the back of the head.
