I asked for patience and God sent me to the Philippines

Recommended Posts

I have learned a great deal about patience over these last 20 years and I received most of my learning in the PI. After a few visits I learned that patience was absolutely necessary for a good stay in the PI. How has your patience been affected by your time in the PI.? I know we all have some good patience stories.

I too have learned to be much more patient. If you don`t you will go crazy here.I was at J mall immigration in Mandaui the lady behind the counter said "wait a while sir" I said would it be ok if we go and get some breakfast as we have been travelling 3 hours. We went off had something to eat and as we walked into immigration a man behind the counter called us over with our PPs and exit clearance. I have learned which things are going to be a problem and how to deal with them so my brain does not explode.Of course there is always some times you cannot avoid crap.

I bet it did. I remember teaching my children to drive and the test of my patience.

I hear you!

Doing assessments for already ‘trained’ heavy vehicle drivers isn’t much better :)

I thought I was relatively patient until I came here - I have since discovered that I have a tolerance level and, like an alarm clock, when the tolerance level is reached, I go off!

It's not so much being kept waiting, It's being kept waiting for no apparent good reason.

I am heading out today for a 3 week break and reset my patience back to zero.

I find if I stay off the roads I can manage alright but once I had out and have to deal with them I stray off course.

Yesterday I was driving along at the same speed as everyone else 30kph, when a van came out at me from the left hand side, with me heading into the gutter to avoid contact, they just don’t care.

Last week at the store I was waiting at the counter, the only one there, when finally someone came to serve me this woman butted in and started to give her order as though I was invisible so I said in a loud voice ‘’wait your turn’’.

i just do not understand how rude these people can be, I could go on and on and on but I won’t just get out of here for a while.

Because the tricycles are king of the road here and drive along at 25kph to save fuel, I drive along at 20kph to conserve fuel and wait till I have a procession of the behind me, then I go home.

Who in the hell told these people that driving along at night without lights on conserves fuel? Or is there some other reason?

It is best to have your patience working well before you get here.  They will test it.

I had a patience test the other day...

I gave up on their banks long ago. It is easier and more efficient to us my US bank and a phone app but my wife likes to keep a local BPI account.  I noticed  a sign on the ATM the other day saying that after 18FEB the BPI cards without chips will not work, please go to your branch for a new card (franchise banking, so you have to go to 'your' branch for a lot of things).

We go to our branch and they have an envelope with my name on it waiting for me.  But it has only 1 card. I ask about getting my wife a card. They give me a form (ATM card request) and point to a desk. I go to the desk and the woman has no idea what she is supposed to do with me. She asks the guy and he says I am supposed to have my wife fill out the form and take it back to him. Still, no one knows why I was sent to the woman's desk. My wife fills out the form and gives it back to the first guy. He then sends us to a cubicle. The guy there looks at the form oddly. Says it is wrong and that I have to fill out the form with my info (right form, wrong person's info).  Turns out I have to fill out a 3 page form to request the card they told me to pickup, and had already printed. I fill it out and he gives me my card and wishes me a good day.

But

I ask again about getting my wife her card. He says it takes a different form. So I give him one of my patented 'ok idiot, that is why we are here, let's do this' looks. We fill out the form and he wishes us a good day. So I ask when/how we get her card. He says to come back in one week for it.

3 desks, 2 sets of forms, plus an incorrect form, having to ask about her card a minimum of 6 times, and 45 minutes later we are done. Simple, right?

Simple...but...

I may have lost my patience a few times.  Yeah, hate to say it, but I did.  I had to ask 3 people, and fill out multiple forms, and still not get any closer to getting her card. The idiocy astounds me at times (and I let him know in no uncertain terms). But I never raised my voice.  ha ha.
