We are both healthy and happy in the USA. There's still no signs of "the deterioration of pinays health when living in the West." Plus, my wife is constantly amazed about how much bigger things are in Texas, especially the eggplants. 4 1
Popular Post Mark Berkowitz Posted April 29, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted April 29, 2019 Things are still going great! My Filipina is always pleasantly surprised about how things are much nicer in the first world—she has often said that she feels like she’s living on another planet, and I often respond by telling her that “now you now how I felt when I lived in the Philippines.” As far as my Pinay’s health, it’s greatly improved with the medical care that she gets with my health insurance over here. My wife has several Filipina friends over here and two of them are from her home province (Pampanga). We video chat frequently with our family in the Phils, plus we have the TFC channel on demand with our Roku TV, so my Pinay’s homesickness is well under control. As far as our acceptance over her in San Antonio, TX, there’s no problems. Plus, it’s really funny how many people will speak Spanish to my Filipina, but she is discovering that she understands most of it. As far as relatives in the Phils asking for money, nothing has changed because we had already stopped doing it when they asked for money over there, and we’re certainly not doing it over from here. Our priority right now is saving up money for a visa for my step-daughter, as well as saving up money for airline tickets to bring her and my dual citizen son over to the USA. When I started this thread, I had hoped (and still hope) that other Expats who returned to their homelands would chime in with their experiences. I still hope that this will happen.
nor cal mike Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Great news Mark, so glad to hear things are going well. My wife had a similar reaction when she first arrived. Thanks for sharing the good news and please continue to keep us posted.

I thought Americans were not allowed to own women there. (Seriously though, I realize you meant "my Filipina wife" which the snowflakes still seem to allow.) There is a fair to middlin' chance I will take my Filipina spouse and her son to Canada to live for a while. Nice to hear of other people doing it with good results. I have been a perpetual tourist in the Philippines for over 11 years and we intend to end up back here after staying in Canada for a while. It is hard to predict what the future holds.

Strange to find this thread popping up from time to time, however it's a good example of how the Philippines is not for everyone. Much as I love the place, at 70+ my health has to come first. My wife and quite a lot of the Filipino community here in UK realise the value of the National Health System, and for that reason as they are getting on in years, and many with Diabetes, a return to "home" is now questionable for retirement. For those who have managed to adjust to the climate in Philippines and continue to be in reasonable good health, I say good luck to you and enjoy every moment......JB Edited April 30, 2019 by Kuya John correction of spelling
