Philippines' Duterte gives Canada 1 week to take back garbage or 'we will declare war'

Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday reportedly threatened to "declare war" against Canada within the next week if the country fails to remove tons of garbage that was previously shipped to Manila.

Duterte, in remarks aired by state media and reported by The Canadian Press, said he will "give a warning to Canada maybe next week that they better pull that thing out or I will set sail."

"I will declare war against them. I will advise Canada that your garbage is on the way. Prepare a grand reception. Eat it if you want to," he said. "Your garbage is coming home."

Good idea.  Feed it to the Pinoys in Canada.  Give them a "taste of home"

But seriously, better to send it directly to Michigan as that's where Canadians send their trash these days.

Now some may ask the reason.  Canadian environmental laws have become so strict that it is bloody expensive to operate a garbage dump now and the cost is passed on to the people who have to dispose of stuff.

I wonder who got their pockets lined with the Canadian Dollars to allow for this in the first place. They are not sending it here for free. Follow the money and find out who is really responsible for the Canadian trash coming here.

That is along the lines of what I was thinking.  Someone is the previous administration is involved in this.

In civilized countries (I'll assume Canada is one, despite Hounddriver's rep) you can't just export something like this without an export permit and an import permit from the destination country.

Was it all just an issue because the public found out and started protesting?
