nor cal mike Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 (edited) I think a lot of what’s said online can be offensive and oftentimes downright mean. Are people to onion skinned or should many of the post be censored? Where do you draw the line as to what you post and how you respond to other’s post you find distasteful? Maybe should be posted in another place, mods please feel free to repost to a more appropriate location. I just do the same thing that I do with Facebook--i.e., if I don't like the post/thread, I just ignore it. Sometimes we can joke around without offending anyone, but when things are just too mean or downight hateful, it's best to ignore that person. However, we do have a feature to report a 'distasteful' or 'hateful' post, but I have never used it... at least not yet.
Eddie1 Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 This is definitely one of the better forums with regards to Member's behavior. However, I agree with Mark Berkowitz that it's just best to ignore and move on BUT having said that, I do wish that there is a Dislike Icon, sometimes it is appropriate to show dissatisfaction to a post without having to either comment on it or use the Sad Icon which isn't always appropriate. So, taking the opportunity can I request the forum hierarchy to insert a Dislike Icon please so we as member's can express our views more accurately. 2 1
Popular Post graham59 Posted May 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2019 I think us 'older folk' do need to be given SOME dispensation for having a tendency for writing a load of crap. 1 1 4

Eddie I don’t know about other forums, I don’t even do fb, however my wife does and she sometimes shows me what people say. I am amazed at the amount of nastiness and meanness that floes thru that site. As I have said and others have reiterated people say things they would never say in face to face situations. I am glad to see that type of behavior kept to a minimum on this forum.
Tukaram (Tim) Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 I am on YouTube more than FB these days. Somehow FB has passed YT for nastiness. If someone is truly hateful I either unfollow, or block as needed (in Groups you cannot unfollow a particular person and have to block them). I enjoy a well reasoned debate - but you rarely find that in all the name calling. There were a couple fun atheist Filipino pages, before Duterte, now they degenerated into name calling political 'debates'. Neither side is any fun, so I quit looking. I also use FB Purity to filter my newsfeed. No sports, religion, or politics (the filters are not 100%, but help a lot). There is much more to life, and I enjoy it. There is no reason for the threats and name calling, but the anonymity emboldens people.

This has been one of the more lenient groups that I have been on since I started joining groups way back before I retired here in 2002, and I appreciate it. Don't take things personally and grow a thick skin. We all have opinions..if you don't agree with a particular one let it pass. 2
graham59 Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 I use FB Purity too. Highly recommend that browser extension.

I have always wanted that on FB. Especially on political posts. I don't post politics on FB and when people do, I would rather not comment. A simple dislike would do the job. I'm not sure about here on the forum. It could get misused a lot and then start an even bigger sh*tfight!

I'll try it and maybe then I can follow some of my socialist relatives!
