Power cuts....call them what they are!!!

I'm a fairly reasonable, accepting of my situation sort of bloke but recently grrrrr!

Today is the third, longer than 4hours, power cut in a 6 day period. 200metres one way they have power, constant buduts, 200 metres in the other direction there is karaoke (bad songs sung badly). I am still trying to figure out why these power cuts only happen during the hours of darkness. My partner offered to complain tomorrow until I convinced her that they would only laugh in her face.

I just want to cook and eat my dinner please!!!

As an aside, why is the bill more the less electricity used????

Rant over....for now :571c66d400c8c_1(103):

When we replaced the old cooker earlier this year we made a point of buying one that had both gas jets and an electric plate so we can use either and can still cook when the power is out or we run out of gas (getting a gas bottle at night is a bit hard).  Or you can buy 2 burner bench top gas cookers for under 10000 peso.

Might be an option if you’ve only got electric?

I have heard it mentioned although I don't know how true it is that after a power cut they run the frequency a bit higher to catch your meter up.

A bloke once told me that laying a brick on the meter would slow it down.

You can only blame the power company.2 weeks back we had a very bad electrical storm never seen so much lightning ! Lightning actually struck a transformer nearby at around 1am sounded as though a bomb had gone off ! But the power company were out in force and renewed transformers and cables power back on at 8am !

We had that happen a few months back, took 16 hours to fix that one.

Apparently the power cut last night was scheduled for 2 hours but took just under 4. It came back on for 10 seconds then went off again for a minute before coming back on properly. Another case of spinning the meter perhaps!

I can't fault my electric company. Noreco 2, hardly any brown outs this year.

We do have a gas cooker but I prefer not to do elaborate prep by candlelight. Thanks for your input though, much appreciated.

Of all places that I’ve lived, here is definitely a place that one should have a generator. At least big enough to power the essentials. Way too many power interruptions here.

 My answer this was   Emergency lights.jpg I chose Omni and Firefly but there are many brands, around 1.500 per unit and are easy to fit as the work of  normal outlet. Power off and on they come, power back on, off they go and automatically recharge We have them all around the Hose and have been Great :wink:
