I know the area well since I grew up there.  We had a lot of quakes back in the 60's and 70's, with the biggest close to me being the San Fernando quake in 71 when I was a freshman in high school.  It was only a 6.6 and freeway overpasses collapsed, etc.

Building seismic technology has improved leaps and bounds since then, but if this 7.1 would have been in a populated area closer to L.A., there would have been big damage and casualties  Ridgecrest is in the boonies.

Glad no one was killed or - as I hear it - seriously injured. Sounds a lot better than what happened in the last big quakes 20+ years ago.

3AM woke up suddenly small earthquake. Several more aftershocks according to the news. This took place southwest of Seattle.
