After living here with my first Filipina gf and her two wonderful children who I helped raise we eventually moved to live in Australia....where they are very happy and my ex step children have done well for themselves and are both now married. We remain very close and even though it didn't work out with their mum, she and I remain mates. I then retired here again (with my finances significantly reduced) and eventually met a lovely Filipina (no children) and... yep you've guessed it... after 4 years here took her to live in Oz... 3 years later she left me sadly for a younger wealthier Aussie....and I wish her happiness. So....I have retired to the Philippines for the third and at 72 for the last hurrah After one wrong gf I have settled in Dumaguete with a lovely lady who is almost 33 never been married (CENOMAR verified) with a great little lad turning 6.....and we are coming up to our first year together. To answer the original poster's question... I retired here because of finding a wonderful future wife, cheap cost of living, nice warm weather, many expat friends and the friendly happy Filipinos in this colourful country which I love. So here's hoping this is my final retirement to the Phillipines 3rd times the charm worked out for you. Glad your'e happy. It took me 4 times and I've been with this lovely Filipina for over 15 years. We have a 14 yr old son that I love to death and probably spoil way too much. Love can be had if you wait long enough to find it. Don't get angry with each other for more than 5 min. Yield even if you think you are right. Enjoy! 6 1

I've been driving around in the Cavite area and have yet to witness any seaside homes built near any beach that is not polluted with plastic and other crap including dead pigs and dogs washed up on the shore by the wave action. This might sound like I don't like it here. But I do love living here. This has me concerned, especially the animal part. Is this a big problem around the Philippines? I'd imagine it varies from area to area, but where I am in Iloilo in Western Visayas I haven't seen such things on the beaches but I have seen plenty of other debris. It's one of the negative things here, the lack of respect for the environment.

What about those international cruise ships dumping waste and who knows where it will drift. And also I think almost anywhere trash will wash through the drains and find its way out to sea so I dont think its only a Philippines problem but also see your point.

It depends where you live, in the Philippines. The culture here sees a dog as just another animal. Filipinos seem to like dogs, and they are annoyed if a foreigner kicks a stray, but they seem them in a practical light. If they live in very rural areas and they are poor people then they see dogs as emercency food rations. If they live on the seafront and have unwanted, sick, or stray dogs that need to be done away with then they put a rope around its neck with a stone on the other end and dump it in the ocean. Until recently I used to walk up and down a 4 mile long stretch of beach every day from 4 to 6 PM. There was an average of one dog a month that washed up on the beach with a rope around its neck. The tide is a strong trash mover for a self cleaning ocean.
Forum Support Tommy T. Posted September 17, 2019 Forum Support Posted September 17, 2019 And I saw people wading out in the ocean at high tide who just pushed whatever had washed ashore on "their" beach and shoved it back farther into the water to wash up on the next beach... Many times I witnessed this...

Yes, agreed the exact same problem must exist elsewhere, I've just not visited those other places to witness it. Related - nearby one of the shopping malls in my place there are some rice fields - you would be forgiven for thinking they were growing trash rather than rice! The mentality of people who think it's ok to dump trash bags in open fields is questionable.

Popular Post sonjack2847 Posted September 19, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 19, 2019 I moved here because the arrest arrant is still current in the uk joking. I was not happy with my life in the UK I came here met a woman and the rest is history. In 8 years the only real problems I have had stem from the UK how people say it is much more efficient there, for certain things, astounds me. I will continue to live here as long as they let me I like the fact that I can live here relatively stress free. If I need paperwork done and don`t fancy sitting for a few hours jumping through hoops then I pay somebody to do it for me. I have found peace here which I never really experienced in the UK, too many rules and regulations just to do a job of work there. 2 1
