This is something I dont understand either, why do they keep putting dark colors on their roofs????

Must be tradition or something. I can't think of any other reason. Maybe they don't know that white is reflective and dark is absorptive.

I erected a nice wide spiral staircase to the up stairs patio. Thrilled with it and have zero problems. Was painted in epoxy enamel some 5 years ago and still looks like new. As said a huge space saver.

I'm sure - It's just one of my things based on seeing too many such steps in 70s renovations - usually more akin to a fireman's pole than a proper staircase.  With a wide enough sweep I'm sure they're fine.

We stayed in a small hotel in Lagaspi that had a spiral staircase to reach the 1st floor rooms, it was a bitch trying the carry the suitcase up.

The apartment here has the standard cement stairs, but with the circular-type wedge steps at the landings and at the main entrance. I always have to be super careful to hug the outside wall where there is actually space for me to safely step without slipping or doing a face-plant. I hate it. I am sure the design relates to the small living spaces in many homes and condos. L hates it too.

The new home will have USA style rectangular landings at the cost of less available floor space. To me it's a necessary safety feature for this ageing guy who likes to sip rum now and again...

My new concrete roof patio already has the (external) concrete landing in place.

I'm just toying with what to use to access it now.

Only beer will need carrying up there... not suitcases, fortunately.

Good point about getting down again, after sinking a few though. :89:

Maybe just position one of those mini-trampolines at the bottom of the steps.

Yep...we have the same style of stairs and at first I tripped more than a few times.  Now I have my route off by heart!

I think a lot of us are reaching the age that any stairs will start to become a challenge.

Depends on the construction. Friend of mine also has one which is a bitch to climb, just to narrow. Mine is around a meter in width and as said is a joy to scramble up and down after a few SMB even better.
