Hi all,

I'm not much of a drinker, but I want to pick out a good bottle of something to give to a relative at Christmas.  (assuming wife can get a visa this year for us to travel).  I had it in mind to give him something 'authentic', i.e. distilled in PH if possible.  Rum, whiskey, whatever, but not wine or beer.  I have no idea what spirits Philippines is known for.

I figure you'll have some good recommendations.

The Tanduay Silver rum is very good imho, but I'm far from being an expert. I only use a shot or 2 to help me sleep. The headache-later problem seems much diminished compared to other hard liquor.

I’ve brought back Tanduay 18 year in the past for friends who drink liquor. They were pleased with it.

We looked for some last November and couldn’t find any.

Don Papa Rum is popular, though I haven't had any.

If you want something local and authentic how about a bottle of tuba or lambanog.

I've brought back regular Tanduay Rum and people were happy with it. I don't think they sell it in the states so it's a novelty.

Sap from coconut palms that is allowed to ferment.

If they don't like the flavour then it's good for stripping doors and furniture.
