Popular Post stevewool Posted December 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2019 Yesterday we left the house later then usual and before we started walking back to the apartment I noticed there was more kids out playing in the streets, these was the younger kids , playing with knicker elastic and hopscotch, some running trying to get a kite in the sky, there was even a bunch of kids on one corner playing with the toys and even colouring books, with each of these groups there was always adults sitting outside chatting between themselves and the best thing there was not a mobile phone to be seen. I don’t think I have ever seen this back in England for a very long time , brings back happy memories from my childhood all those years ago.
Popular Post Pinetree Posted December 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Saw a video yesterday of the UK in the early 1960s, all the kids playing outside and having little adventures, stuff modern kids never seem to experience, stuck as they are with modern electronics. Society, at least in some countries, has lost something really valuable that will never be replaced. Its sad really, but such is progress. Popular Post Marvin Boggs Posted December 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2019 The best is when you see them using their sandals as part of the game they are playing, kind of like that's the only thing available so they may as well use it! Back in the 90's and 00's I took numerous trips to 3rd world countries, and it was the first time I ever experienced life outside the 'bubble' we live in (in the West). Kids making their own toys from sticks, playing outside as you say, chasing animals around or kicking a can. No phones, no internet, zero, nada. But so happy and full of life, just like in the 70s when I was a kid. Its one of the things that planted a seed in my mind, that we had really progressed too far and too quickly, and that life needed to be simpler. Its one of the reasons I chose the Philippines. San'all as they say. Wish that everyone could be content in the simple things and just get back to living.

Popular Post boyee Posted December 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2019 My wife and I bought a farm in Cavite last year and we have been making many changes in our lives in preparation to move out there soon. Life changing stuff. I'll be totally honest with you. If there were not kids playing in the streets I would not make the move. Period. The main reason we want to move is for that lifestyle. kids in the streets, old folks in chairs, dogs wondering around and nobody has shit to do.
Forum Support Mike J Posted December 13, 2019 Forum Support Posted December 13, 2019 Once watched young boys using a coconut palm frond as a sled. They would take turns pulling each other across the ground.

Gary D Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 A couple of kids along our road the other day were throwing one of their slippers in front of passing cars to see if it would be run over. I guess we did similar things but on the local branch line. Got some really flat pennies somewhere at home.
