Welcome KMS.  You would require a special visa to work in the Philippines and in most cases you would need to be sponsored by an employer.  The wages here are also much lower than what you may be used to in your home country.

http://immigration.gov.ph/visa-requirements/non-immigrant-visa/pre-arranged-employment-visa

Who can apply?

Foreign nationals who are proceeding to Philippines to engage in any lawful occupation, whether for wages or salary or other forms of compensation

Where to apply?

BI Main Office

Other Immigration Offices (Click here to see the list of offices authorized to process this transaction)

What to bring?

1. Checklist with complete documentary requirements

2. Application Form

3. Additional Information on Applicant's children  (if needed)

4. Notarized Certification of Number of Foreign and Filipino Employees

How to apply?

  1. Secure the CGAF from either at the Public Information and Assistance Unit (PIAU) at BI G/F Main Office or from the official BI Website.

  2. Submit the documents for pre-screening to the Central Receiving Unit (CRU) or to the frontline officer or staff of other Immigration Offices able to process this transaction.

  3. Pay the required fees.

  4. Submit copy of Official Receipt.

  5. Attend hearing.

  6. Proceed to Image and Fingerprint Capturing Counter of the Alien Registration Division (ARD) and submit requirements for ACR I-Card application

  7. Check website if visa application is already approved.

  8. If approved, submit passport for visa implementation.

  9. If ACR I-Card is approved, claim ACR I-Card.

How much does it cost?

Hi,  thanks for your reply.  Yes I've been reading up on a few things. I'm just at the very initial research stage.  A bit overwhelmed with everything tbh. Would I be right in saying roughly a teacher's wage would be around€400a month or an I totally wrong in that one.  I've been using Google converter to euro.  It just doesn't seem right tho??,,

€400 sounds a bit optimistic.

Fairly close, I think that actual starting salary is supposed to be about 20,000 peso, about 350 euro.  I would try doing a search on "International Schools Philippines" and see what comes up.  Some of the international schools like to hire foreign teachers to their staff.  There pay might also be higher than the public schools?

I know there are people who do online tutoring.  We used to rent an office to a guy who would conduct daily tutoring sessions in German.  Not sure how the legal / tax aspect of that works, but it could be more lucrative then teacher pay?  Just guessing.

Personally, I'd favour teaching in a nearby 'first world' country...Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc,  (which I have done in the past), then spending your earnings in the Phils during long vacations.

More (legal) job vacancies, and far higher earnings.  That is for 'face to face'.

I believe there are also lots of foreign online teachers resident in the Phils, but whether they are working legally or not, I wouldn't know.

You do NOT want to be detained in jail in the Philippines.

Presumably you're familiar with the 'Dave's ESL Cafe' website ?

I don't think that Montessori education works online... :89:

@KMS there are only 2 Montessori schools in the Phils, one in Manila and one in Davao. My youngest daughter attends Montessori Davao and as far as I know they are always looking for new teachers.

I have no idea about their salaries though.
