stevewool Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 (edited) Yesterday while out buying food for the 5 thousand it seemed, we was walking through the wet market looking for fish and snails and prawns , anyway after what seemed like 20 stalls we ended up back at the first one we started at, amazing how the fish are alive and you chose which ones you want and the fishmonger then goes about his work, Emma chose a milk fish and I watch the chap descale it then he was twisting it and then cut just below it’s head, he then took out some bits and bobs then he was like breaking it in certain parts before twisting it a few more times , then the next minute the whole fish comes out through the slit and there is the fish on one side of the block and the head and skin the other side, I have never seen this done before at all, amazing to watch, plus Emma as assured me she can do that so we shall see. Also at a veg store I thought I saw a mouse in between the veg and going towards these small cut melons for the seeds, anyway I was watching and sure enough it was popping up through the veg and taking these seeds but it was a great big rat, well I made sure nothing was brought from this store. Marvin Boggs Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Rats seem to be a fact of life here. I let my wife brave the wet market, because I'd rather not see what I know goes on. Once at a coffee kiosk in the local SM mall, I watched a rat scamper from under a cabinet and right across the main gallery and into a clothing shop, avoiding peoples' feet as he went. No one even noticed! 1

I have a small storage room next to my office (in my house) where some old suitcases are parked and where our cat has his food and toilet station. Every 2 or 3 days a mouse comes in at night and feasts itself on the cat's dry food - he would grab one or two crackers from the cat's bowl, then hide under one of the suitcases and enjoy the free food with tiny crackling sounds. I've seen the fella a couple of times - actually quite a cute sight - and so did the cat! But what does the cat do? Either silently watch the mouse eating his food or trying to "play" with it. He's not much of a mouse-murderer as it seems... Anyways, when it comes to food, mice are an absolute taboo of course!!! 5 hours ago, Marvin Boggs said: I let my wife brave the wet market, because I'd rather not see what I know goes on. It might look disgusting to someone who is not used to it. Normal for the locals. If the food is cooked at a high enough heat you shouldn't have a problem. Another thing that used to amaze me was that if someone cooked, say pork adobo at 9 am, the leftovers would be set on the table in a bowl with a cover on it to keep the flies away, and people would feast on it at 9 or so pm. I would think that they were risking food poisoning. Must be the vinegar that they use.

The only things that seem to get put away rather promptly are seafood and ice cream.

The ice cream does not have time to be put away, I have never seen so much ice cream eaten by one f-in fat kid in one sitting and he then asked if there is anymore and because there was none he just ate all the cones and no one said a word to him to him, I hope he had bellyache on his 3 hour trip back home. 2

I was referring to our household where a bit of self control is often exercised... Next time you see that kid, ask him if he can spell "diabetes" or "chronic obesity?"
