Why do Filipino's Walk so Slow??

Recommended Posts

If you've spent enough time in the bigger cities, you will know what I mean.  Especially where the side walk real estate is limited and the passing lanes are squezingly narrow.  More often than not, I find myself stuck behind the typical Filipino whenever I'm walking to my destination.  Is it the slippers?  Or is it the "laid back", "not in a hurry" culture here?

I'm still learning to adjust to these small details.

If you are 4'11" your stride is going to be far less than if you are 6 '2" . Simple physics.

I like it... I've always been one to walk slowly (or stroll)... used to drive my ex crazy but it works well here :)

Maybe they worry that walking faster might get them to where they are going on time, instead of Filipino time?

I joked that we should start a sandals shop for all the missing sandals we see in random places.  Presumably they fall off people's feet while dangling from a motorcycle.

Funny story, wife was riding the jeepny, and all the oncoming jeepny drivers kept honking and waving to tell her driver something.  Turns out they were warning him about an upcoming traffic stop, where they were checking to make sure the drivers were wearing shoes. :hystery:

When they are in the malls it's often a day trip and they are largely window shopping so they are spinning jt out. Unlike us westerners who only go to a shop and know exactly what we wont. So a quick in and out.
