After reviewing my comments and the reactions to them, I decided to withdraw them from this thread.

Hmmmm, I'm actually "brand new" to this forum here and I couldn't see any personal attacks anywhere so far!?

Maybe I'm reading the wrong topics, could you hand me an example (link)?

 

Actually, I'm also active in some German-speaking expat forums and compared to this one here, over there all hell breaks loose on a regular basis when it comes to personal feuds!!

(luckily they have highly competent mods there, but still)

Compared to those, the board here is my "safe haven of friendliness and respectful people" - true story! I love it here, and I especially love the way people interact with each other.

Exactly. That is (or should be) the reason of an internet forum in the first place *imho*

Not everybody has the same view of what is nice. We suggest members put people on ignore when those members feel offended or just do not like that person's posts.  It happens more than you might think.  Sometimes the most popular posters can still be on someone's ignore list.

The moderators decide what is a personal attack. Sometimes we don't interfere if two adults look like they can work it out on their own.  Sometimes we suggest that members grow a thicker skin.   If you have grown a thicker skin and still cannot work it out with the other person then report the offending post.  One of the moderators will make a decision.

Members are discouraged from "playing moderator"  One person's view of a personal attack is another person's idea of "telling it like it is".  Starting a thread like this could be viewed as "just venting" or it could be viewed as trying to tell other members what they should and should not say in this forum.

I have tried to be nice  and tell it like it is at the same time.

Thanks Dave... My  aim was just venting in this thread... sorry if I overstepped the boundaries... You will see that I deleted my comments... I am too old for any controversy and regret that I may have caused any...

I would truly like to see an example, if you can give one, of a personal attack on anyone. Differences of opinions are commonplace in society. Why should it be out of the ordinary in a group like this? It would be a very boring group if everyone had the same opinion!
