Popular Post stevewool Posted February 8, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 8, 2020 Having been out and about from the city of Marikina you suddenly can see how beautiful the Philippines can be , our place for the last few days has been a placed named Liliw up in the hills over looking Laguna bay and what a beautiful area to be in, the town is big enough for all your needs and just a very short drive from here you are up further into the mountain named Banahaw and all you can see is fields of coconuts, there are other produce growing here like tomatoes ,cabbage and I am sure other things , bamboo is harvest too, the air is fresh and cool compared to Marikina, this is my sort of place where I think I could be happy ,a few hours drive from the family to keep Emma happy , what could be better I wonder. A few days later it was a drive down to Taal volcano and onwards towards Canyon cove, a nice place for a couple of days but any longer I think I would be bored just sitting on the beach , Taal volcano was smoking as we stopped to take pictures , Amazing is all I can say , there was boats moving around the lake still and everything around the volcano was covered with brown ash , but the surrounding area seemed to be fine but only one side, it seemed that the ash was blown just the one way across towards Tagatay . Back to Liliw now and again it’s nice to be back , time to convince Ems we need a place if our own around this area , wish me luck . 9 1
Forum Support Old55 Posted February 8, 2020 Forum Support Posted February 8, 2020 The few times we spent time in rural areas were my favorite memories of Philippines Steve. Would you have enough to keep yourself occupied living in a rural area? Once I retire we will attempt living part time in da Provences. 3

The wife and I spent spent several months looking at houses in Cebu City after we moved here from the US. Her younger brother who was to be the caretaker for the parents came down with cancer and died several months later. We ended up buying a house here in the province so we would be close to the parents. Each time I HAVE to travel to Cebu City I am thankful that we live in the province.
Gary D Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 There are one or two glimpses of beauty driving around but on the who I think the Philippines is a bit worn and threadbare.

Definitely a land of contrast. My dad would say the land looks like a "beautiful horse that had been rode hard and put away wet". 4

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But I fully understand your meaning Gary. Steve, at what elevation is Liliw? Fresh air with a bit of a cool breeze would be lovely. graham59 Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 Province life fits me better too. Retired, but always plenty to do. The city (and beach) a trike ride away, when needed. Friendly people. Very laid back. Clean air. Cheaper property, so you can afford more of it.
Popular Post graham59 Posted February 9, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 9, 2020 Country life.... our local beaches, and my Mrs and boy at one of them last week: Plus, my walk into town... which I like to do once or twice a week, to keep fit, plus part of our garden... (still maturing after only a couple of years since planting). I'm no photographer... so excuse quality. .

Yes I would find so much to keep me busy, I would have a good bike to explore the smaller roads ,plus having a house here you would have to spend time making sure it’s waterproof on a monthly basis, just joking.

Worn and threadbare indeed, but your little piece of paradise does not have to look like that.
