You might consider bringing a nice polo or button down shirt as a back up in case your fish monger barong doesn’t last, or becomes too uncomfortable and you accidentally on purpose spill something on it, lol.

I have two barong and enjoy wearing them to special occasions.  One is super nice for formal occasions and the other for semi formal.  Both are made of pina fibre with very nice embroidery and are light and comfortable.  As other posters have mentioned you always wear a t-shirt under them.  Almost always a white T, but at one wedding the male guests were asked to wear tropical colored T-shirts under the barong and ladies to wear tropical theme dresses.   The event was held at a beach resort and all the guests had a great time.  I know, because I was the groom.

I have one of those expensive pineapple fiber ones from when I was the groom. Set me back about 4k.

For the price I'd be more prone to buy a plain white linen Tommy Bahama camp shirt... you can wear anywhere, any time... and it looks just as good.

I agree that they make some great looking shirts.  But they would not be suitable Philippine formal or semi-formal wear.  And the one I like is $145, that is north of 7000 peso.  But I do have a special birthday coming up.

In Hong Kong we had a Tommy Bahama outlet store - good stuff unlike many outlet stores.  I bought 3 dress shirts for 70% off - very nice but I have had had few chances to wear them here.  Funnily enough, I did wear one of them to my neighbours wedding a couple of months back - most of the wedding party (mix Americans and Phils) were wearing barongs.

Well the bash went very well but why so much base in the music the compare shouting and playing silly games, there was so many folk there that came from all over the world , and guess what there was only 2 men wearing Barongs , and I paid for them both, yes the family was in the suits and gowns then the rest well I don’t know whether they was family or gardeners , anyway a grand time was had by all.
