Most countries in Africa would struggle to even compare with Philippines regarding the quality of health checks.  I suspect the number of cases there are far higher than what has been reported.

What health checks are in place here - none in my location?

The only Health Checks I've seen are at the Hospital entrance doors. Everyone gets the temperature gun reading before entering the Hospital.

There was one spot check on the Ceres bus from Dumaguete to Cebu last week.  A "nurse" came around and checked everyone's temp but did not kick anyone off so I guess we were all fine.

Looks like the shit is about to hit the fan in the Philippines.  I mean, if the Philippines is not reporting cases then the virus is spreading like Chinese casino workers under the radar.

We don’t know for a fact the virus was contracted in Philippines or not. Yes I’m probably whistling in the dark but pray it’s not true. :whistling:

And now we have this one:

https://www.rappler.com/world/regions/asia-pacific/253554-new-taiwan-coronavirus-case-was-in-philippines

MANILA, Philippines – The 44th confirmed novel coronavirus case in Taiwan had a history of travel to the Philippines, the Taiwan Center for Disease Control (CDC) said on Thursday night, March 5.

The 44th patient, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday, is an over-30-year-old male who traveled to the Philippines with his friends from February 28 to March 3. The patient was not identified but was reported to reside in northern Taiwan.

"Related investigation suggested it is an imported case linked to the Philippines," Taiwan CDC's Central Epidemic Command Center said in an advisory on Thursday.

According to the Taiwan CDC, Patient 44 had diarrhea in the Philippines on Monday, March 2. Upon returning to Taiwan, he went to a clinic after experiencing dry throat and "tiredness" on Tuesday, March 3.

After this, the patient went to a hospital and was later reported as a suspected case on Wednesday, March 4. Laboratory test results released on Thursday, March 5, showed he tested positive for the virus.

We need to keep in mind that this is a short period of time.  Authorities are telling us that Covid 19 can incubate for 2 weeks so it is entirely possible the man had Covid 19 before he even left Taiwan, and he did not want to notice the symptoms until he got home.

But whether he had it on arrival in the Philippines or picked it up there, he likely spread it around . . 30 years old on a 4 day trip to the Philippines?  I'd be carefull around any "ladies of the night" as we can surely guess why he came.

And the US market is up over 1,200 today - unprecedented! Certainly a time for volatility. I am just sitting on the side observing. To do more now would raise my blood pressure.

And down 969 today. Wheeeee!

The wife and I treated ourselves to an overnight stay in Cebu City last week.  We stayed at the Marco Polo.  We were temperature checked at the door.  There were hand sanitizers set up in all public areas.  I noticed that the house keepers, cleaning staff, etc were all wearing masks.  There was also a letter on the desk of our room advising us of actions they are taking.  The currently have nurses on duty 24 by 7, not sure if that is a new step for them.  Their business is off quite a lot.  When we had the buffet breakfast only about 20% of the tables were taken, that night the lounge with live music was practically deserted.  Our waitress said the hotel staff was now working five days a week instead of six.  One of our taxi drivers said he will not stop for people who look like they are Chinese.
