Ah... It sounds like perhaps your pan was not hot enough or maybe your partner did not cook it long enough?

The bread can not be soaked too much - in my opinion. The main thing is to fry with medium heat until the bread/egg is cooked and lightly browned. I fry the bread either in a bit of oil with butter in the frying pan (the oil raises the temperature that would otherwise burn the butter) or with just plain butter but at a lower temperature. Then I apply a fair amount of butter after the frying and then apply the syrup.

So try it again!!!!!
