I have always been in awe of the skill and dedication of test pilots and even amongst those Chuck Yeager was something special.

There is a biography. I read it about 35 years ago. It's a good read.

I believe I may have read the same one. Fascinating reading it was too.  

The man was also an engineer, who understood the planes and their dynamics.

And the beauty of it... never went to college for engineering...  yet he understood more than many who did.
