Manila has fallen. Is this the end?

Numbers are certainly being hidden.  I just read a personal post from Dr Mueller  (German citizen) who is one of the main doctors in Puerto Galera hospital and his wife is a recovery room nurse.  The town is down playing the figures saying there are only 6 cases.  Sadly both him and his wife have contracted covid and in his words he isn't sure if his wife will survive. He basically says the figures are lies as he had been treating more patients that weren't included in the figures. Both him and his wife deal with hundreds of people daily, both in the hospital and also at Kalyani yoga which his wife runs.

This isn't a shock as a good friend who is a nurse in the same hospital has been telling me horror stories since last year about what is going on. Things like the storage and transportation of tests, no PPE, non registered hospitals carrying out tests but sending the swabs to the Red Coss for analysis, hospitals refusing patients showing symptoms etc. They've even resorted to asking for donations on Facebook for PPE and alcohol in the only hospital in the area.

My wife told me the other day about a terrible incident in our local Robinson - a security guard shot dead a Food Panda delivery guy who had had the audacity to put down his food on the guard's table.  He then ran off.

It never happened.

We live in a country where such tales abound and I take everything I hear/read with a pinch of salt.

Occams razor says (paraphrasing) that the simplest answer is most likely the correct one and in this case the simplest answer is "Covid is causing large numbers of premature deaths".

Geoff, didn't you know that Occam is part of the conspiracy.  :hystery::hystery::hystery:

Still only 3/4 million cases in the Philippines.  That is far from the worst hit countries.  But I wonder if the Philippines is properly recording their case numbers

Dave, I think your point is much bigger than people think....... many countries (China, Russia, etc)  report greatly deflated numbers to make them look favorable.  It seems the same could be occurring here, until recently when it finally got out of control and couldn't be white washed............  As long as there is a Covid 19 crisis, the inflated, autocratic control over the people will continue to grow with an iron fist............Just my thoughts.

Unbelievable, cheap medicine that is in the market since the 80s is not safe for filipinos but new technology vaccines that was never tested for long term impact is perfectly fine...

"DOH: Illegal to distribute, promote Ivermectin, under the law, violators may face imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to P5 million."

MANILA, PHILIPPINES

Under the law, violators may face imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to P5 million

The Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday, April 7, that people who are "dispensing" anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 are violating Republic Act (RA) No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire issued the fresh warning when asked about the liability of those who are distributing and selling the the drug in the country as treatment for COVID-19.

"Specific to that law is that unregistered drugs cannot be used by the public," Vergeire said, adding that only healthcare professionals can prescribe medicines to patients.

"We would like to advise the public that if you take unregistered medicines, the government cannot assure that they are really safe for you and can really protect you for that specific disease," she added in a mix of English and Filipino.

Vergeire said that under the FDA Act of 2009, "manufacture, importation, distribution, exportation, sale, offering for sale, transfer, promotion, and advertising or sponsorship of health products without proper FDA authorization is prohibited."

Under the law, those who will violate RA 9711 may face imprisonment ranging from one year but not more than 10 years or a fine ranging from P50,000 to P5 million.

The DOH issued the latest warning amid an ongoing public debate over the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 despite warnings from medical experts here and abroad.

The FDA said that there is no registered anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin for human use in the country. The only Ivermectin commercially available in the country are for veterinary use, and in the form of a topical cream for skin application.

The topical cream, however, is used "for the treatment of external parasites, such as head lice and skin conditions such as rosacea."

In a House health panel on March 30, Dr Allan Landrito – the most popular proponent of Ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment – said he made Ivermectin pills on his own before selling thousands of bottles across the country.

In the same hearing, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Philippines Dr Rabindra Abeyasinghe stressed the need for "carefully controlled and planned" clinical trials of Ivermectin before it could be used to treat COVID-19 in the country.

While the DOH said that it had received the application for registration of Ivermectin, it maintained its position that it "does not recommend the use" of the anti-parasitic drug to treat COVID-19.

To date, there is still no approved treatment for COVID-19. What hospitals are using now are investigational drugs allowed under the compassionate use permit of the FDA. – Rappler.com

What is the incentive for a hospital to treat seemingly everything as Covid?

Its not just that but here the goverment pays the cost of the funeral and most medical expenses of covid victims so as it was suggested by a doctor of one of my GF workmates whose relative or father ( cant remember) had died is to write the certificate as covid so they had no cost but they refused so would have ended up with the bills.

Here is some information on ivermectin.  I would be a bit reluctant to take a medicine that is normally prescribed to kill parasitic worms in horses.   But then again, maybe it is a Darwinian solution to "thin the herd".  :whistling:

https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-should-not-use-ivermectin-treat-or-prevent-covid-19

COVID-19. We’ve been living with it for what sometimes seems like forever. Given the number of deaths that have occurred from the disease, it’s perhaps not surprising that some consumers are looking at unconventional treatments, not approved or authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Though this is understandable, please beware. The FDA’s job is to carefully evaluate the scientific data on a drug to be sure that it is both safe and effective for a particular use, and then to decide whether or not to approve it. Using any treatment for COVID-19 that’s not approved or authorized by the FDA, unless part of a clinical trial, can cause serious harm.

There seems to be a growing interest in a drug called ivermectin to treat humans with COVID-19. Ivermectin is often used in the U.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals.  The FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.

Here’s What You Need to Know about Ivermectin
FDA has not approved ivermectin for use in treating or preventing COVID-19 in humans. Ivermectin tablets are approved at very specific doses for some parasitic worms, and there are topical (on the skin) formulations for head lice and skin conditions like rosacea. Ivermectin is not an anti-viral (a drug for treating viruses).
Taking large doses of this drug is dangerous and can cause serious harm.
If you have a prescription for ivermectin for an FDA-approved use, get it from a legitimate source and take it exactly as prescribed.
Never use medications intended for animals on yourself. Ivermectin preparations for animals are very different from those approved for humans.
What is Ivermectin and How is it Used?
Ivermectin tablets are approved by the FDA to treat people with intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, two conditions caused by parasitic worms. In addition, some topical (on the skin) forms of ivermectin are approved to treat external parasites like head lice and for skin conditions such as rosacea.

Some forms of ivermectin are used in animals to prevent heartworm disease and certain internal and external parasites. It’s important to note that these products are different from the ones for people, and safe when used as prescribed for animals, only.

When Can Taking Ivermectin Be Unsafe?
The FDA has not reviewed data to support use of ivermectin in COVID-19 patients to treat or to prevent COVID-19; however, some initial research is underway. Taking a drug for an unapproved use can be very dangerous. This is true of ivermectin, too.

There’s a lot of misinformation around, and you may have heard that it’s okay to take large doses of ivermectin. That is wrong.

Even the levels of ivermectin for approved uses can interact with other medications, like blood-thinners. You can also overdose on ivermectin, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reactions (itching and hives), dizziness, ataxia (problems with balance), seizures, coma and even death.

Ivermectin Products for Animals Are Different from Ivermectin Products for People
For one thing, animal drugs are often highly concentrated because they are used for large animals like horses and cows, which can weigh a lot more than we do—a ton or more. Such high doses can be highly toxic in humans.

Moreover, FDA reviews drugs not just for safety and effectiveness of the active ingredients, but also for the inactive ingredients. Many inactive ingredients found in animal products aren’t evaluated for use in people. Or they are included in much greater quantity than those used in people. In some cases, we don’t know how those inactive ingredients will affect how ivermectin is absorbed in the human body.

Meanwhile, effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 continue to be to wear your mask, stay at least 6 feet from others who don’t live with you, wash hands frequently, and avoid crowds.

I’m referring not just to the old city of Manila, but to the 16 cities of the entire Metro Manila area. From the vantage point of those who are in the provinces like me, the COVID-19 contagion has overrun the National Capital Region (NCR).

They definitely should not allow anyone to leave the NCR area for anything! They need to step up big time and get everyone vaccinated in the NCR!!!!!!!!!!! And of course enforce the safety guidelines concerning the pandemic. Most things are a huge challenge for the PH, but they need to get over it and turn this pandemic issue around in a positive way.
