Sorry sir, they are busy working in the garden.  Can you call back later?

ALL police stations in Cebu Province and the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) headquarters in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City will soon have their backyard gardens that follow the model of the Cebu Provincial Government’s Sugbusog program.

CPPO Director Col. Engelbert Soriano has informed Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia that he has directed his men to set up a backyard garden at the provincial headquarters and in all police stations in every local government unit within Cebu Province that is under CPPO's jurisdiction.

CPPO will partner with the Department of Agriculture for access to vegetable seeds, such as eggplant, tomato, and okra.

“My mindset is to align our programs with the programs of the Cebu Provincial Government. Otherwise, hindi iisa ang movement namin,” Soriano said.

Police stations with no space for a backyard garden are instructed to use containers or recyclable materials to plant vegetables.

Inspection
Gardening will be included in the police’s athletic activities on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

Starting May 15, Soriano will start to go around the province’s 44 towns and six component cities to check the police stations’ vegetable gardens.

The SUGBUsog or “Sugbuanong Busog, Luwas, Himsog” is among the several programs launched by the Cebu Provincial Government during the height of community lockdowns to prevent food shortage in Cebu.

Picking up the garbage surrounding the police stations (and everywhere else) might be better exercise... and donating some of their 'fines' to the poor, more user-friendly.

To be fair it's a vast improvement on the Tic Toc dances I've been seeing a few uniformed officers doing.

Gardens can be profitable too.

The gardens are for hidden cells to house female prisoners for short times before being released into the hands of two guys on a motorcycle.
