Major Tom Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I just had a discussion with my Filipina wife about taking down our Christmas tree. I said that in the States, we take it town on the 4th or 5th of January, but she said that in the Philippines, the tree is taken down later in January... something to do with 'the 3 Kings.' Does anyone know what date that is?... since it's been a very long time since my wife has ever had a Christmas tree and most of her friends and relatives back home (in the Philippines) have never been able to afford to buy a Christmas tree.

Major Tom Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 Clermont, thanks for the heads-up. Now, l’ll need to keep my eyes wide-open for any other swifties that she might be trying to pull on me.

The 3 kings is January 6. It is celebrated in our barangay but not in others.

It seems either 5th or 6th is customary - 12th night after Christmas which can be counted from 24th or 25th. In the UK we use 6th January, same as here but I noted last night the vast majority of homes had already taken them down - then again, they had been up since September! 2
Jollygoodfellow Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 No point taking it down. Won't be long before it needs to be up again. I had a santa hanging for years from a curtain rod. Just dont notice it after awhile. 2

Yes... we have permanent christmas lights wrapped around the spiral stairs from the ground floor to the second floor, they were so difficult to put up that no one wanted to face taking them down. The last few years they just turn them on during the ber months and off during the rest of the year (to be fair... not very obvious).

Great idea for a synthetic Christmas tree, but it wouldn't work for a real (spruce) Christmas tree, since after a month, the dried out needles would fall on the floor (and spread all over the house), quite noticeably. Yes, she’ll next “suggest” to leave it until mid February, hang hearts from it and not take it down until after Vagina day ……oooops, meant Valentine’s Day.
