MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine police killed four suspected Chinese kidnappers in a gunbattle and rescued a Chinese man they had allegedly abducted in a central city, officials said Tuesday.

Backed by a SWAT team and intelligence agents, police raided a hideout in Lapu Lapu city on Monday night after tracking down the suspects, who had received a partial ransom payment through the Chinese smartphone app WeChat, police said.

“Our men were met with gunfire from the suspects, prompting them to retaliate,” said police Brig. Gen. Rudolph Dimas, who heads the national police’s anti-kidnapping force.

The Chinese victim, identified by police as Lyu Xingou from China’s southeastern province of Fujian, was seized from his house by Chinese-speaking gunmen last Wednesday as he prepared to leave for work in Lapu Lapu city, police said.

The kidnappers called the victim’s son in China and demanded a ransom, which the family partially paid through WeChat in an arrangement that allowed the police to track down the suspects, police said, without elaborating.

Police recovered four pistols, a laptop computer, cellphones and handcuffs from the slain suspects, who may have been involved in past kidnappings of Chinese working for lucrative online casinos in the Philippines that cater to Chinese clients in China, Dimas said.

Isnt  it wonderful that this country lets these criminal vermin in. And continues to find that its invariably chinese who do KFR ( kidnap for ransom , a well used local abbreviation ). who continue to be caught dealing ,buying selling drugs, and then prostituting their own people.

Having lived and worked in China for over 9 years the type of chinese coming here most certainly arent the type this country wants. nor needs. I dont wish to tar all intskis with the same brush as I worked with some excellent chinese , but not this criminal scum thats here.... the same short haircuts, the uniform of endlessly wearing black, smoking everywhere types... And yet as they now get visa on arrival they have no issues entering.

There was much less chinese instigated crime when they had to submit their passports to the very old decrepit Philippines embassy in Beijing.

The problem is these pesky criminals always tick the "no criminal record" box on the entry forms!

Seriously though, how do immigration know who is and isn't a criminal when they enter if they have no criminal record on file?

If they dont do a simple  rudimentary check how would they ever know?.

The reason it took 3 days previously for chinese to get a visa to visit Philippines was because in theory, they checked the passport against the chinese criminal data base.. So I was told by a staffer at the Philippines embassy.

Reality was that it stopped very few , but as I observed, there was significantly less chinese crime when visas werent available on arrival.

I'm not trying to be arsey, but are you suggesting that visa on arrival should be abolished for all nationalities?

Just recognizing that there was significantly less crime in philippines committed by chinese,   when chinese had to apply for a visa , as opposed to current situation whereby chinese get visa on arrival.

There was also probably significantly less chinese too.  We can all see how much crime is being committed by chinese. Thankfully at moment its generally committed by chinese on other chinese.

Understood.

For sure, if the entry requirements are loosened they are loosened for all but I wonder how efficient the previous system was anyway given the levels of corruption in both countries.  Also, when considering the number of crimes committed by Chinese we have to consider there are almost 1m Ethnic Chinese living here and throw in the almost 200,000 Chinese visitors it's easy to see how/why crimes committed by Chinese seem to dwarf those committed by other nationalities.

If memory serves me correct the change was for "groups" of Chinese visitors who arrived as part of a "tour".   The tour company could apply for the entire group as tourists and the entire group would basically be waived thru customs.  Overstay were getting to be quite common who had arrived via this program so it was eliminated.

Also the government made the changes to the SSRV (age and deposit) program because of abuse by the Chinese.
