Does the merchant have a QR code, or does the app scan the QR code on the item(s).  I have never heard of the app prior to your post.  I can't help but think it would be next to impossible to use here in many/most establishment?  But I live in the province, maybe it would work in the metro areas?  If you decide to give it a try, please let us know your experience.

QR code payments haven't caught on in the Philippines yet. By contrast, everything in Thailand can ve paid with QR code.

Showing my ignorance again.  I have never heard of it.  How does it work?

Yeah, i tried it a couple of times. Additional fees for instapay or whatever it's called. Thailand, Vietnam, ... No extra fees. Apparently you can now use your Thai bank app to pay via qr code in Vietnam and vice versa. You can buy anything with them, from delivery cod's to p$ssy to night markets.. Everybody just flashes their qr code and you deposit directly to their accounts. Shop owners like them because it's harder for staff to skim money. No extra fees.

Come on guys.  Someone tell this luddite how it actually works.   Is there a QR code on the cash register receipt that you scan?

In Thailand, it shows up on the cash register display, or the credit card scanner. Your bank app scans it, shows you the amount, and you approve it or not. Less sophisticated operations like night markets, cod's etc will just have a QR code either on their phone or a pic on the wall that points to their bank account abd you manually enter the amount. As soon as you pay, they get a notification. Sometimes they take a pic of the receipt on your phone, I assume to show their boss if he questions the transaction.
