Filipino Food USA

We wanted fried chicken for lunch and decided on Jollibee's.  They have a place less than 1.5 miles from our hotel, but I also wanted other Filipino food.  The 2nd location is a strip mall about 8 miles away in a predominantly Filipino community.  The area is similar to National City in San Diego.  The price for a bucket with six pieces original Jollibee's was $17.67 including 10.5% sales tax.  Six pieces of asado siopao from Chow King and a Taho for my wife was $30.97.  Inside Seafood City, a Filipino supermarket chain, they have a large Turo-Turo selection for take-out or dine-in.  I got half pound of fried chicken skin for $10.20.  That's my snack for a Labor Day game this afternoon.

~$3/piece for chicken? My God but that is stiff! All the prices you quoted sounded ridiculous. But then, a Big Mac here in Philippines goes for, what, US$5? or more?

But it never looks like that when you get it... Usually all smushed up. Last time L bought one, the fries were not totally cooked through, so soggy and were barely salted. She didn't know until she brought it home and opened it.

Thanks.  I was able to improve it using the trial and error method.

I've often wondered how Starbucks and MacDonald's have survived in PI with their near Western pricing.  Yeah, they are cheaper, but not by much.  Starbucks confuses me in general; making their garbage coffee popular world-wide has to be one of history's greatest con-jobs.
