Forum Support Mike J Posted November 6, 2025 Forum Support Posted November 6, 2025 Returned in dollars according to Google - When you drop your Special Resident Retiree's Visa ( SRRV) and request the deposit back, the funds are typically returned in US dollars via outward remittance to your home country or source bank. The deposit is generally held in a US dollar account in a Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)-accredited bank. While the deposit can be converted to Philippine Pesos for local investment purposes (like buying a condominium), the standing policy is to repatriate the funds in their original foreign currency (USD) to the source country upon cancellation of the visa. However, some anecdotal reports from expats suggest that in certain scenarios, particularly if the funds were converted to pesos, the refund might be processed in pesos, which could result in a gain or loss due to exchange rate fluctuations. To avoid issues, the official process mandates inward remittance from abroad and the subsequent outward remittance back to the source country/bank when the visa is cancelled. The process of getting the deposit back requires formally cancelling your SRRV status and typically takes several weeks to a few months for clearance and processing. Well...that may be what the AI from Google says, but I paid my deposit with cash US$. So far, I haven't tried to use the house for the collateral, but I really should do that and retrieve that cash. I could use it for some home improvements...
Possum Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 When you cancel your SRRV you are supposed to give them the transfer information for the bank you want the deposit returned to. As to it taking a several weeks to a few months? I will be asking why so long when I go to the PRA.
