The Transporter can't be far behind!  Beam Me Up Scotty!

In July 2025, Japanese researchers at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) achieved a world record data transmission speed of 1.02 petabits per second (equivalent to 1,020,000 terabits per second or about 125,000 gigabytes per second) over a distance of more than 1,800 km using advanced multi-core optical fiber compatible with existing infrastructure. This is millions of times faster than typical home broadband and could theoretically download the entire Netflix library in under a second. It's an experimental breakthrough, not yet deployed commercially.

Coming soon to the Philippines?  Please define.  10 years?  20 years?  The technology sold to the Philippines usually consist of what others consider obsolete and it's time to discard.

Is it scalable, is it affordable, does it take all new multi-fiber lines, etc.  :89:

The irony is, PI had earlier adoption than Australia with fibre; we can live in hope? :571c66d400c8c_1(103):

What benefit would these types of speed give typical users over let's say already fast fiber speeds such as 500mbps or 1000mbps?  Netflix loads instantly for me with no buffering etc as it is.

I think the idea is they can use a much smaller cable to transmit exponentially more than the current cable. One small cable could supply all the users in a city without any speed loss.
