OnMyWay Posted December 21, 2025 Posted December 21, 2025 (edited) Mavis has a nice swing! She is in 4th grade with my youngest. She has won a lot of age bracket tournaments including some in other countries. She was in Taekwondo until a few years ago when she switched to golf. FB link. Mavis Espedido got the thrill of her life as she was mentored by two-time U.S. Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso during a special golf clinic hosted by ICTSI at The Country Club in Laguna on Monday. ⛳✨ An unforgettable experience learning from one of the best in the game. https://www.facebook.com/share/1E13GwmrJ8/ Edited December 21, 2025 by OnMyWay
JJReyes Posted December 22, 2025 Posted December 22, 2025 One of my grandnephews loves the game of golf and he was pretty good. At 10 years, he was invited to join a group of talented youth golfers and given privileges such as playing for free with one adult guest at public golf courses in the Long Beach, CA area. There were also free lessons. Sponsors paid for the expenses, and this became a problem. Soon there were demands that the youth golfers show up at a tournament sponsored by an automotive dealership or at the opening of a new chain restaurant. His mother eventually pulled him out even if this was supposedly the gateway to potentially becoming a professional. We joked that one sponsor might be a mortuary and he might be asked to wear a t-shirt to school advertising the sponsor's services.

I think most high schools have golf as part of their extra-curricular sports programs.
