The reason why is that the death penalty in the Philippines has been abolished for the 3rd time and just recently in 2005!http://en.wikinews.o..._in_Philippines

Most of the methamphetamine labs locations are permitted by politically connected Filipinos working with Chinese syndicates. The Philippines has become an important transit point and manufacturing center for Meth. There are occasional arrests made that include Chinese. Not long ago three Chinese were busted at Mactan airport for meth fixings but two days later the chemicals were found to be "legal". The Filipino meth problem is only going to get worse.

Interesting that execution of 3 Filipino nationals made the headlines recently. Will there be more news alertsabout other nationals scheduled for execution? Could this be a fallout from that bus hostage crisis where many Chinese nationals were killed? As Old55 mentioned, the drug problem in the Philippines is becoming an international transit and manufacturingcenter for the whole region. Before, the ingredients were brought in to make SHABU (meth hydrochloride). Nowmore and more labs are being set up due to better "chemists".Respectfully -- Jake

It beginsPhilippines cracks down on Chinese poachersMANILA—Philippine authorities on Thursday vowed to seek long jail terms for six Chinese caught poaching fish and sea turtles, as part of a crackdown against foreigners stealing marine wildlife.. . .Sabban said the crackdown was not related to the execution of the three but compared the two cases, recalling that China had insisted the Philippines respect its legal system under which the Filipinos were put to death."The Chinese ambassador said to us, we should understand the rule of law in their country. The same thing should be applied here. We are just following the law, the same way the Chinese ambassador told us," he said.
