Mr Lee Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Hopefully everyone has some nest egg or rainy day fund should something unforeseen happen to them, but many do not, so what might happen to those of us who have not prepared for an emergency or the unknown? RED TAPE in the US seems unbelievable to me. I cannot even fathom how a bank or a govt agency can tell you that you have to prove you are alive, when you walk in on your own two feet and have id to prove it is you, but apparently it does happen, and should it happen to someone who lives outside their own country, then it might end up devastating their lives, or even worse, become a reality from the aggravation it has caused them. How would one prove they are alive while living in a foreign country if walking into a govt agency is not enough? So if this can happen in the US, then I suspect it could happen elsewhere as well. Plan for the best and be prepared for the worst. Do you have a back up plan, if not then this is just one more reason to think about saving for one. This poor woman in the story bank account was closed and they would not reopen it until SS agreed that she was alive, and that took months.
