Pau Gasol Donates $24,000 For Typhoon Victims

Paul Gasol had an excellent game last night for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is donating $1,000 for every point he scored towards a relief fund for Philippine typhoon victims. Since he scored 24 points, the amount is $24,000. Immediately, there was criticism that the total is too small based on how much Pau Gasol makes per game as a star player.

 

I think the critics miss the point. More important is the publicity generated that will help keep the donating public focused on helping the Philippines. The super typhoon is already yesterday's news story. Wait a minute, on the other hand, maybe the unfair criticism is helpful in keeping the story of Typhoon Yolanda in the media.
