Particular Reputable And Reliable Lawyers In Cebu City Area

Since moving here, my husband and I have tried to like many expats I'm sure, to "do our homework" and learn what we can and sometimes do through trial and error, what we need to live successfully here. We over time try to  get all our "ducks in a row" about required licenses, titles and regisrations etc

Sometimes it would be nice though, to have a "go to" lawyer to consult with if there were ever any general issues about immigration, land or home purchases, personal legal issues etc.  Have any of you local expats in Cebu used a particular lawyer here in Cebu that you had a good result with? Any suggestions and recommendations would really be appreciated.

Also, is law the same here as in the US, where a lawyer deals only with particular type of law, like corporate, civil, immigration etc. or are all lawyers in the Philippines trained to handle all kinds of cases?

Any advice and input is welcome.

Thanks, Queenie

52 views. 0 replies. What can you deduce from that? Sorry.

We do have good local lawyers where I live that my asawa uses for land purchases, so its not a lost cause.

Queenie just checking, your asking for an honest attorney correct? Just never experienced anyone living here ever asking such a question.

Reputable and Reliable Lawyers ?  Just wondering if that would be considered an oxymoron.  Sorry, just had to say something.

Good Luck. I'm reluctant to mention it but I think most lawyers here are like those back home. You know what I mean.

I think that you will have to go with your gut feeling.  I have had a lawyer recommended to me and he was no good whatsoever. Some are specialists but some seem to dabble in all aspects of law, maybe that is why we can sometimes get a seemingly useless lawyer.Good luck hope it all works out for you.

input is welcome
about required licenses, titles and registrations etc

Queenie, one of the advantages of large Filipino families, and their habit of maintaining close contacts with classmates over the years is that someone always seems to know someone who can take care of anything that needs to be done like what you mention.

I am sure that there are high quality law firms, but my impression is that most lawyers are just general practitioners. They graduate law school, rent a small office, hang up a shingle and wait for their relatives to drop by.

Now for advice? I am almost positive that if you have and Filipino friends that you feel you can trust, I would be a large sum of money if you went "Juan, do you know someone who can help register my car? " (pick your scenario) He/she would most likely have a name in a heart beat.

Good luck and have fun :cheersty:

Good luck

Thanks guys for your input:)

I have found that that word of mouth is a good way, and lately we have had some good advice from a couple of different lawyers about different issues, so there are some to be found. Like in the US and elsewhere there will always be the honest and not so honest, so buyer beware I guess!

We have a good lawyer near Fuente Circle, but in the adoption area. Have a need for that? We are going to ask her about a property title early next month and see if she does that area or will recommend someone. I'll let you know what we find.
