stevewool Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Well after lots of talking and thinking we have agreed a time to say good bye to England. Around 12 months time now before I retire and just a few more things to try to sort out too. We have decided to make the move like a vacation sort of thing, we will give ourselves 1 year of getting the house how we want and also living there too before we move anything from England, that way we may know if it's the right thing or wrong thing But like anything in life things can change, My British passport runs out in august 2018,so if we go in 2017 is it best to try to renew it before or can o do it over there, As this is going to be a trial run is there anything that I should do or bring

PaulB Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Great News. Keep us posted on your challenges and successes. Be great to hear and learn from you. Best wishes. Also being an expat already, however in Abu Dhabi and not yet the Philippines I would recommend you get your passport renewed in the UK. Can be a lengthy and nightmarish process overseas. Huggybearman Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Renew your passport whilst still in the UK. It will be much easier. They will give you extra validity, up to 9 months IIRC, if you renew it before the current one expires. I renewed my passport and the kids from the Philippines last year and the whole process took 19 days. The only documents we sent, were the passports and a couple of photo copied documents. By the sound of it, we were lucky. Edited March 5, 2016 by Gas
