Jeff R Us Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Greetings All! I'll try to make this short. This morning on my way to the BI my driver got pulled over for running a red light and reckless driving. The tickets carried fines amounting to 3000 pesos. After a brief argument, not surprisingly, the driver pulls out a 100 peso bill. After another brief argument, the officer takes the money. He then gives the drivers license back. They shake hands and have a chuckle and off we go. Absolutely not at all surprised, BUT! What did surprise me was the small amount. If that were to happen to one of us foreigners, I can't believe we could buy our way out for such a small sum. In Chicago we called it greasing the palm of the cop. It was commonly known to fold a $20 bill under your drivers license when you handed it to the police officer. He would either keep it and hand your license back with a short lecture or ask what is this, in which you do the "oops! it must have slipped from my wallet when I grabbed my license." The point is $20 was the norm. What is the amount for a foreigner to "grease the palm" of a police officer?

I have no Idea and I would not try it personally. Trying that could get you in all kinds of trouble which I don`t want to happen to me.You can act dumb and maybe get away with a warning but they are stamping down on corruption so beware. 2

This is an illegal, corrupt action that we do not condone or discuss on this family oriented forum. However, if someone were to send you a message with the answer you seek that is between you and them.
