Popular Post Jeff R Us Posted February 19, 2018 Popular Post Posted February 19, 2018 After several hours of online research and 4 weeks in Dumaguete, we decided to relocate to the city of gentle people. We spent time in Bacong and Valencia. We really liked Valencia but decided it was just a bit too far out. We found our sweet spot with a very nice two bedroom home in Junob. Despite all the due-diligence, there were a few surprises: The traffic was much heavier than I thought it would be. The number of new cars and suvs were astounding. Also, knowing the popularity of Dumaguete with expats, I was a bit taken aback by the shear numbers. "Their everywhere!" Of course I realize that I am adding to that. Finally, just my own personal observations, the Filipinas are much more conservative and less aggressive than anywhere else I have been in the Philippines. Being happily married to a wonderful Filipina, that really isn't an issue for me. However, I did find it refreshing. So, next month we make our move and we are looking forward to a new beginning and hopefully meet some of you. Thanks to all of you for making this forum so welcoming and informative. It was a really big help. 8

But it will eventually reach a point where those who are fed up and leave will balance those who see this area as paradise and move here. In the meantime, its getting harder to move around the city on any kind of transport but Cebu and Manila are worse so we count our blessings.
sonjack2847 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Welcome as for driving here wait until after rush hour and avoid lunchtimes.Once you get past Santa Rosario subdivision the traffic nearly disappears From Robinsons to there can be hectic but it still does not take that long to get through.
bows00 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Yeah, the pollution in the middle of the city really sucks, but other than the soot and smog, it's a pretty neat city - I wouldn't mind renting a condo in Marina Town once it is developed - the air quality is tolerable near the coast line with the ocean breeze and it's not too far from the main city. i was finally able to meet with the Silliman University international Advisor - I am seriously thinking about enrolling in some graduate business classes in the fall to keep me busy during retirement.
