Why would her mother help the police? Maybe a wild goose chase. :oCEBU, Philippines - Members of the Task Force Ellah Joy are scouring the entire Bohol province since last week following reports that Bella Ruby Santos is hiding somewhere in the province. A source told The FREEMAN that the operatives of the task force have been conducting operation in Bohol to serve the warrant of arrest for kidnapping with homicide against Santos. The operation stemmed from information allegedly coming from Santos’ mother, Perla Bautista. According to the source, Bautista is helping the police locate her daughter who is now wanted together with her British boyfriend Ian Charles Griffiths for the kidnapping and murder of six-year-old Ellah Joy Peque in February. It was Bautista who allegedly told the police that Santos is just somewhere in Bohol and has already changed her identity. Based on the information received by the police, Santos has cut her hair and changed her looks.

I don't know about that, but I think she would be very scared, and rightfully so ! Her chances of having a fair and impartial trial, are next to zilch !

We discuss that quite a bit in the original thread and while I feel anyone who runs is usually guilty, it is true that she might not feel like she would get a fair trial in the Philippines, so maybe that is why she is running and hiding. :o

And that would be my opinion as well now that she ran. I feel she as a Filipina with money and a number of good lawyers, had a decent chance at trial but now that she has run and hid, I doubt that she will have that fair chance if caught because she will be presumed guilty. I continually hear how people feel she would not have gotten a fair trial, yet she is not the average Filipino who has no money and the more I read about those who have money being tried and getting away with crimes due to pay offs and people not showing up to testify or changing their testimony etc, the more I feel a Filipino with money stood a good chance at a decent trial and probably would not have even been put in with general population. It is all an unknown at this point, but I now fear for her life because if some wish to save face, killing her now would be much easier than a trial and they would have every right to kill her if she puts up any resistance, or they say she did. I feel she had a better chance before if she had turned herself in, but what do I know.

Lee, even if Santos is found and placed under arrest, she can not be tried for the abduction and murder of Ellah Joy. She can, however, be tried for the alleged possession of a CD cover, said to contain pornographic images - that charge being laid by the Children's Legal Bureau. The "main event" can not take place unless and until Ian Griffiths is extradited to the Philippines. I have checked with lawyers and an accused person can not be tried in absentia: the latest (1987) Constitution makes that very clear. Without Griffiths' appearance, that case is stalled. There's almost no chance Griffiths will be extradited. Firstly the most serious charge against him is murder and there is a provision in English law that a British citizen who commits the offence of murder (or manslaughter) whilst abroad shall be tried in an English court if he is arrested in that country. I would very much doubt that the evidence against him is sufficiently compelling and would persuade the panel of Judges who would hear the extradition request. There is no DNA evidence against them - the blood found in the Pajero and within Santos' house did not match Ellah Joy's and nothing was discovered linking her and the Pajero or her and Santos' home - other than witness statements that could have been bought and eventually paid for. Given that scenario, why would Santos give herself up when all she can expect is indefinite incarceration? For some reason the Department of Justice has not yet made any request of the British Government to extradite Griffiths. Mark
