As far as I know there are three truly international airports in Philippines, MNL (Manila), CEB Cebu/Mactan and to a lesser degree Clark.CEB airport is aging and at times can be crowded overall a nice reasonable layout. Cebu City is a large city but not overwhelming. Cebu is a fairly easy jumping off place to visit Mindanao, Bohol and Leyte. Clark, I have never visited, has anyone used Clark Field?MNL, Manila airport is a epic failure a cesspool hosting the worst of Philippines. Manila the City is HUGE with very heavy traffic congestion and difficult to navigate. IMO Cebu would be the best place for a first time visitor... What do you guys think? This topic was suggested to me by some comments by my buddy, Art.

I happen to like Cagayan de Oro, (the city of Golden Friendship) and since it was the first city I got to visit, and where I met my wife, it will always have a special place in my heart. We would have picked CDO to buy instead of Cebu, had CDO had condos and an international airport back when we decided to buy our Cebu condo. Cebu is still a great place to visit for us and others but IMO the pollution has gotten out of hand and I believe it started with the start up of the Naga coal power plant. CDO has just about anything a person could want as well as a beautiful golf course outside the city. Much less pollution than Cebu and they have people sweeping the city streets daily, so hardly any garbage lying around. There is malls, restaurants and most fast food places and more or each being built with each passing year, and once the new Laguindingan International airport is opened which will replace the current outdated Lumbia Airport, then the city will have just about everything a person needs IMHO. Another place that might be worth looking at would be Dumaguete , I have not been there but have heard nothing but good things about it, so it will definitely be a place we will visit in the future. Anyone have comments on Dumaguete?

Hey Kuya, Dave has recently visited Dumaguete. Here's his comments worth repeating: http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=10785&view=findpost&p=52448 Respectfully -- Jake

It can be used as a base for travelling to much of the rest of the Philippines and is a good place to get cashed up and ease into your culture shock before setting off to visit the tourist places.
