I was checking out the ferry prices for RT Manila to Cebu and it was only marginally cheaper than flying CebuPacific. I'll frequently take trains instead of flying because I like seeing the sights and generally like train travel, but I've never taken a ferry ride of more than 1-2 hours duration. What's the ferry ride like? Is it worth experiencing?

I have not had the chance to experience Ferry travel yet and reluctant to do so,bit worried with all my weight on one side might cause another capsize.Seriously awhile back when I was looking through their web site I thought the cabins would be good for the overnight trips. Not sure if all ferry's have bars but I believe some do,could be like taking a vacation. :23_11_60[2]:

I've ridden the Supercat to Ormoc and the overnight ferry to Naval. The supercat is a passenger ferry so no cars or heavy cargo. The ride was pretty smooth air conditioned cabin and fairly comfy seats. The newer supercats have two levels and two classes of seating. The over night ferry to Naval did not have private cabins. There were two classes of tickets. The regular where you are on the covered area of the deck but open on the sides. The tourist class had A/C and nicer CR. It was one large open room with about 70 or 80 bunk beads. Both had a canteen with drinks and snacks. I know some of the ferrys have private cabins.

My wife and i have both ridden the ferry's from Cagayan De Oro in Mindano to Cebu and Manila . On the 10 hr trip to Cebu i prefer an early am sail so i can go top deck and enjoy the view of the islands you pass . On the trip to Manila we always book business class or better . The newer Super Ferry's do have bars and frequently singing groups if you are into that kind of entertainment .All in all i think everyone should try a large ferry at least once just for the experience .

The ferries can be good fun but long trips are boring. For the fares Cebu Pacific can offer from time to time worth flying instead and saves a day if time is short. The thing that I find a shame is the prices to take a car on the roro's. Cheaper to hire a car the other end and fly.
