Just some basics:

Hand-in-hand is starting in the Philippines too this year.

They work with Help-to-self-help (= micro loans and some basic business education).

Behind Hand-in-Hand is the Swede Percy Barnevik, retired CEO of the international company ABB (=ASEA-Brown Bowery). He developed that company much better than expected, so he got a very big bohnus salary. (In difference from all them who get big bohnuses after they have done even bad results!!!) The bohnus was so big, many complaining about it. He paid back a big part and the other millions he put in this aid organisation...

Afterwards he has said he regret he paid back anything, they could have done better use in this aid :)

(I talked with them some months ago, they want me to call them after I have moved, so perhaps I will join them.. Bad I can't move now, because of my injury, so I could have participated during their start. Before I got to know they are starting, I had plans of doing something similar by myself, but very small, because I don't have much money :boohoo: :)

I guess I can write such links, because it's charity

Here is the origin one in Swedish

but I suppose you prefer the one in English :)

I spoke with them last spring. Then they were still at planning level for the Philppines, then they expected to get started sometimes this year. Haven't checked since then.

It's a difference Percy Barnevik made a quick start possible by give so much money himself, but they work similar to Grameen, who's founder (Bangladesh) got the Nobel price (Swedish too :)

(I'm a bit more involved in an other international project, which don't have anything in Phili yet. It's more about better resourse use. It's supposed to be a mix of aid and (half) commersial organisations (to manage to finance, plus make some local people more motivated to solve a part themselfes.) Perhaps I will try to solve the organization of the Bohol + Cebu part. But this one is only at test level yet, so not so much to tell yet..)
